Beef Lo Mein
Ingredients:
1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
8 oz lo mein noodles or spaghetti
1 small onion, sliced
1 carrot, julienned
1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
1 cup broccoli florets
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon soy sauce (for marinating the beef)
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 tablespoon sesame oil
For the sauce:
1/4 cup soy sauce
1 tablespoon oyster sauce
1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (for thickening)
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger (optional)
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
Instructions:
Cook the lo mein noodles or spaghetti according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
In a small bowl, marinate the sliced beef with 1 tablespoon of soy sauce for 10-15 minutes.
In a large skillet or wok, heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef and cook until browned and cooked through, about 3-4 minutes. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add the sliced onion, carrot, bell pepper, and broccoli. Stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are tender-crisp.
Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, sugar, and cornstarch mixture. Pour the sauce into the skillet with the vegetables and stir well.
Return the cooked beef to the skillet, tossing to coat in the sauce. Add the cooked noodles and sesame oil, tossing everything together until well combined and heated through.
Garnish with additional green onions or sesame seeds if desired, and serve immediately.
Notes :
This dish is versatile and can be made with chicken, shrimp, or tofu instead of beef.
For a more authentic flavor, use fresh lo mein noodles if available.
