Breakfast Pizza for a Hearty Start to the Day
Ingredients
For the Pizza Crust:
1 can (16 oz) refrigerated biscuit dough
All-purpose flour, for rolling
For the Sausage Gravy:
1 lb breakfast sausage
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
2 cups whole milk
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
For the Toppings:
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
For the Pizza Crust:
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
On a lightly floured surface, roll out the biscuit dough into a large rectangle or circle, about 1/4 inch thick, to form the pizza crust.
Transfer the dough to the prepared baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until lightly golden. Set aside.
For the Sausage Gravy:
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the breakfast sausage, breaking it apart with a spatula, until browned and fully cooked.
Sprinkle the flour over the cooked sausage and stir well, cooking for about 1-2 minutes.
Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring continuously until the mixture thickens into a gravy consistency, about 5-7 minutes. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
Assemble the Breakfast Pizza:
Spread the sausage gravy evenly over the pre-baked biscuit crust.
Sprinkle the shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheese evenly over the gravy.
Bake in the preheated oven for an additional 8-10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Serve:
Remove the breakfast pizza from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired.
Slice and serve warm.
