Austin Metcalf, a 17-year-old student and football standout, was killed on Wednesday, April 2, during a fatal altercation in Frisco, Texas, per the New York Post.

The heartbreaking incident happened around 10:00AM at Kuykendall Stadium, located in the 6900 block of Stadium Lane, where a track and field event was taking place.

According to Frisco Police, the violence broke out after “an altercation between two students” which “resulted in one stabbing the other.”

Despite frantic efforts by police and fire crews — including CPR and a blood transfusion at the scene — Austin died from his injuries.

The teen had been attending the meet with his twin brother, Hunter.

Loved ones and community members have since been left stunned by what they’re calling a “senseless” act. In the days following the tragedy, many have turned to Austin’s social media — specifically his final tweet — for comfort and reflection.

Just two days before the stabbing, on March 31 at 11:46 a.m., Austin posted a simple but powerful message on X: “Faith that god got me and my work will pay off.”

The post quickly resurfaced, with social media users calling it “precious” and a reflection of his character and strength.

To help the family navigate the unimaginable loss, a GoFundMe page was set up by Austin’s father, Jeff Metcalf.

“He was a bright young man with a great future ahead of him,” Jeff wrote on the fundraiser page. “He was a leader of men. His smile would light up the room. His passion for football was unbelievable. Voted team MVP this past season and carried a 4.0 GPA.”

“He was looking forward to taking his game to the next level. His commitment, dedication, leadership, and sheer grit made him rise to the level of success that he desired. His twin brother, Hunter, played beside him.”

Jeff continued: “We will all remember him for the way he impacted others’ lives. I love you forever, son. It’s not goodbye, it’s see you later. God will take care of us till we meet again. RIP. Love, Dad.”

The Frisco Independent School District also released a statement following the tragedy.

“Frisco ISD shares in the grief of everyone impacted by this heartbreaking loss, and we extend our deepest sympathies to the victim’s family, students, staff, and our community during this difficult time.”

In an interview with WFAA, Austin’s brother Hunter revealed that the stabbing happened after an argument broke out between Austin and another student, reportedly after Austin asked the student to leave the school’s tent.

“I tried to whip around as fast as I could, but I didn’t see the stab,” Hunter said. “It was really senseless. I don’t know why a person would do that to someone, just over that little argument.”

Police have since arrested and charged 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony in connection to the fatal stabbing.

“The Frisco Police Department grieves with all those affected by this devastating loss and extends its deepest condolences to the victim’s family, students, and staff who are experiencing unimaginable pain,” the department said in a statement.
