Spaghetti Casserole Recipe
Ingredients:
For the Meat Sauce:
1 lb ground beef
1 onion, diced
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes
1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
2 tbsp tomato paste
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp dried basil
1/2 tsp dried thyme
1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
Salt and black pepper to taste
1 cup water
For the Casserole:
8 oz spaghetti pasta
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 cup chopped fresh parsley (optional)
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Meat Sauce:
In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain any excess fat.
Add the diced onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes.
Add the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, oregano, basil, thyme, and red pepper flakes (if using). Stir well to combine.
Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Add 1 cup of water and bring to a simmer. Reduce heat and let simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
2. Cook the Spaghetti:
While the sauce simmers, cook the spaghetti according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
3. Assemble the Casserole:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked spaghetti with the meat sauce. Mix until the pasta is evenly coated.
Transfer the mixture to a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese and grated Parmesan cheese evenly over the top.
4. Bake the Casserole:
Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
If desired, broil for an additional 1-2 minutes to get the top golden brown.
5. Serve:
Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired.
