‘American Idol’ Alum Doug Kiker Known As ‘The Singing Garbage Man’ Dies at 32

Aside from reports disclosing details about Doug Kiker’s demise, his family has spoken out about his death via online posts, and a loved one started a GoFundMe page asking the public for help.

Doug Kiker, a former “American Idol” contestant known as “The Singing Garbage Man,” passed away at 32 on Monday, March 11, 2025. His death was confirmed by multiple family members, including his brother, William Kiker, and his mother, Joyce Kiker.

According to TMZ’s report, Doug’s ex-fiancée, Valerie Cook also confirmed the tragic news. She expressed her devastation, stating how much she hates the fact that the children she shares with the late singer will now grow up without their father. While the exact cause of his passing has not been disclosed, the news has left his loved ones reeling.

Doug’s older brother, William, took to Facebook to share his heartbreak, posting a touching tribute that honored Doug’s memory and their bond.

Accompanying his heartfelt message was a touching photo of the two brothers standing side by side in front of a plain white door, exuding a sense of closeness and camaraderie. In the image, Doug, wearing a backward cap and a black t-shirt that reads “MAKE AMERICA GROOVY AGAIN,” smiles warmly for the camera as a young child, likely a family member, stands between them.

In his tribute, William expressed his deep sorrow and the pain of losing his little brother too soon. He reflected on the finality of Doug’s passing, acknowledging that while his brother may now be at peace, the loss still weighs heavily on those left behind. His words also carried a sense of longing, as he expressed how he wishes he had more time with Doug.

In a particularly heartbreaking moment, he directly addressed his late brother, writing, “Know [sic] matter where you are you will always be my baby brother.”

The post captured the raw grief of a family reeling from an unexpected loss, while also serving as a reminder of the love that will endure beyond Doug’s passing. William’s tribute resonated deeply with friends and followers, who flooded the comment section with condolences and support.

Like his brother, Doug’s sister, Angela Evans shared an emotional tribute on social media that she made in collaboration with their mother, Joyce, and another loved one named Tina Tucker.

In her heartfelt post, Angela expressed the immense grief of losing her brother, describing how deeply loved he was and how much he will be missed by those who knew him. She asked for prayers and support as their family navigates this devastating time, while also finding comfort in the belief that Doug is now singing among the angels.

Accompanying her message were two poignant images that captured different moments in Doug’s life. The first photo shows Doug posing for a portrait. He was dressed in a red plaid shirt and gazed into the camera with a soft yet confident expression.

The second image displayed him with a warm smile. He wore a backward cap while standing in what appeared to be a music venue or stage setting.

The contrast between the two images highlighted not just the passage of time but also the journey Doug had taken entering the music scene.

Angela’s tribute, like those of other grieving family members, resonated with friends and supporters, many of whom shared their condolences. As messages of love and support poured in, it became clear just how many lives he had touched through his music and unwavering spirit.

Aside from her online dedication, Angela also made a public plea for assistance. In her message, she admitted that the family was entirely unprepared for the unexpected loss and needed assistance to bring Doug home from Denver, Colorado, and arrange a memorial service worthy of his life.

“Anything is greatly appreciated thank you for all the calls messages sorry to anyone we haven’t gotten back to you, please bare with us charge it to our mind not our hearts [sic],” penned the bereaved sister.

She also extended her gratitude to the many people who have been sending prayers the family’s way, emphasizing how much they have been through in the last few years.

“Douglas Kiker you will live forever in our hearts 💕 I miss you soooo [sic],” concluded Angela. Underneath her message, she attached a photo link to a GoFundMe campaign created in Doug’s honor, aiming to raise funds to cover the costs of his final farewell.

The GoFundMe page was created and organized by a loved one named Donna Carrillos on behalf of Doug’s family.

In the campaign’s heartfelt description, Donna described Doug as one of the most sincere and hilarious people she has ever known — a beloved son, brother, father, and friend whose absence leaves an irreplaceable void.

She explained that the family is now faced with the difficult responsibility of bringing Doug home and covering funeral expenses.

“Any contribution […] will go directly to the funeral costs and allow us to navigate this difficult time without the added financial burden. Thank you for your love, support, and generosity during this incredibly difficult time. We greatly appreciate each and everyone of yall [sic],” reads the end of the plea. The fundraiser includes touching photos of Doug, capturing different moments of his life.

The overwhelming support from the community has been evident, as donations have poured in. Currently, of the $4,500 goal, the GoFundMe has already reached 84% of its target, with contributions totaling $3,773 from 70 donors.
